Christopher Shelli Homebred Is $230,000 Sales Topping Colt
Ice Box was red hot at Saratoga, when a yearling from his first crop brought the highest-price for a colt at the Fasig-Tipton New York Bred Preferred Sale on August 9th.
Hip 302, a bay colt already named Fear That, sold to Nick Zito, agent, for $230,000. That figure was the third highest of the sale for any yearling, and co-highest for a colt. Hall of Famer Zito famously trained Ice Box to victories in the Florida Derby (G1) and a runner-up finish in the Kentucky Derby (G1).
"Obviously, I'm partial to Ice Box," Zito told the media afterwards. "I think he's going to make it as a stud--that's number one. He's a nice horse, he has all the qualifications."
The $230,000 yearling was consigned by Chris Shelli's Fort Christopher's Thoroughbreds. The March 13 foal is the second foal from his dam, Ghostzapper's daughter Fear This. The second dam is $350,440 Graded stakes winner Susan'sAngel. The colt's second, third, fourth, and fifth dams are all stakes mares and/or stakes producers.
Chris Shelli bought the mare for himself for $5000.00 from the Keeneland Sale in Kentucky.
